Another 27th?
Another 27th has come and gone and that means Brenna is another month old...five months to be exact!
She has really come to life lately...and the baby-baby stage is over. She has to be part of the action and is very animated...and opinionated now :)
And did you notice the legs on this girl? Her rolls and knees are something else! And very kissable :) At five months, 9-12 month clothes fit the best. And we just moved up another diaper size. We like them "healthy" over here!
She LOVES her food. Ever since she started baby food, she eats whole containers, gladly.
Brenna adores Audrey more than ever now. She enjoys watching her and grabbing her toys and "chasing" her with Daddy. She has even been trying to copy her when she squeals and laughs and makes funny noises and sticks out her tongue.

Cheap Fun...Priceless Fun
Fun doesn't have to be expensive...and it can always be priceless! Here's some of our cheap--priceless--activities we have been doing lately:
Getting new books at the library!

Bubbles everywhere!

"Painting" with water on the sidewalk! And playing with White Kitty!
Getting new books at the library!
Swimming...and time with family!

Why pass up another opportunity to celebrate such a great Daddy and husband...
A wonderful uncle, too...
And pretty cute if you ask me :)

Super Mom?
On really tiring days, it feels like these things are all I do...and all I am. Some of them sound like reject superhero names...or more like the villain somedays...instead of SuperMom:

potty patrol
pablo policehuman spit rag
fruit snack negotiator
bite briber
broken record
nanny of no
diaper diva
short order cook
bottle busboy
mosquito defense
bath nazi
sandman
pack horse
nightwatchman
slavewoman
evil hair stylist
human spit rag (yes, I listed this twice)
Yes, most days I am far from Super-Mom. But that's ok. I'm ok with just Mama. And I pray that I can exhibit characteristics of the ultimate Super Mom, the Proverbs 31 woman, while I am busy doing all of these crazy jobs and then some...
Proverbs 31 (The Message)
"A good woman is hard to find, and worth far more than diamonds.
Her husband trusts her without reserve, and never has reason to regret it.
Never spiteful, she treats him generously all her life long.
She shops around for the best yarns and cottons, and enjoys knitting and sewing.
She's like a trading ship that sails to faraway places and brings back exotic surprises.
She's up before dawn, preparing breakfast for her family and organizing her day.
She looks over a field and buys it, then, with money she's put aside, plants a garden.
First thing in the morning, she dresses for work, rolls up her sleeves, eager to get started.
She senses the worth of her work, is in no hurry to call it quits for the day.
She's skilled in the crafts of home and hearth, diligent in homemaking.
She's quick to assist anyone in need, reaches out to help the poor.
She doesn't worry about her family when it snows, their winter clothes are all mended and ready to wear.
She makes her own clothing, and dresses in colorful linens and silks.
Her husband is greatly respected when he deliberates with the city fathers.
She designs gowns and sells them, brings the sweaters she knits to the dress shops.
Her clothes are well-made and elegant, and she always faces tomorrow with a smile.
When she speaks she has something worthwhile to say, and she always says it kindly.
She keeps an eye on everyone in her household, and keeps them all busy and productive.
Her children respect and bless her; her husband joins in with words of praise:
'Many women have done wonderful things, but you've outclassed them all!'
Charm can mislead and beauty soon fades.
The woman to be admired and praised is the woman who lives in the Fear-of-God.
Give her everything she deserves! Festoon her life with praises!"

Dumbfounded, Confounded, & Befuddled...
...over potty training!
I cannot figure this child out. I really thought she would potty train somewhat easily. We got off to an amazing start. She was a champ the first few days we got after it.
Then she just decided she didn't want to. And that is what it has become...a battle of wills. She knows how...she just WON'T do it.
I have tried stickers, candy, toys, tv, spanking, time-out, new panties, big potty. The big problem is that she will holler out, "I need to tee-tee!" and then say No! and fall in the floor when you try to help her get there. And she won't go by herself either.
At first I credited her backtracking to all of the baby stuff going on...maybe a form of attention-seeking. Then lately, I started to doubt that she is ready at all despite all the cues and 75% success rate somedays.
I eased up on her and took a break from pushing too hard. It has just exhausted me fighting her to go when I am juggling Brenna at the same time.
Then somedays she restores my faith in her again and proves that we still need to be potty training when she won't tee-tee in the pool or will potty all day when a friend is over.
And then, the ultimate befuddlement this weekend: We went to a birthday party two hours away so we just put a diaper on her and weren't going to worry too much about it. She stayed dry the whole way, and then stopped playing on her own at the party to go potty...twice!
The next day at home: mostly messes. This morning: pooped in the potty all by herself.
Why does she have more trouble at home? Why does it not bother her to be wet? Is she just trying to frustrate me? Is God trying to tell me something about my patience...or lack there of? Will she still refuse to go by kindergarten? How can someone so cute and sweet be so hardheaded?

Future Olympians!
We went to our first gymnastics class this week...and it was sooooooooo fun!
First, they had to stretch. Who knew just stretching could be so darn cute!
Then there was flipping...
and bear crawling...
and some bunny hops...
and jumping...
and more flipping, hopping, and jumping!
Layton and our friend Kinsey went, too, and they were all great little (sweaty) gymnasts!
All I can say is: Olympics 2025, Here we come! (Well, only if they make bear crawl and bunny hop competitive events :)

When we got home, I realized, "Who needs gymnastics class when we have the Daddy gym?"
