Johane

We have begun something that we are very excited about, something that I have wanted to do since I was a little girl...

We are sponsoring a child in need, and the child God placed us with is Johane.

Johane turns 4 years old today. She lives in Haiti with her mother and one sibling. She is responsible for making beds in her home, and she enjoys singing and playing with dolls.

Through our church, we learned about an organization called Compassion International (www.compassion.com) which exists as an advocate for children, to release them from their spiritual, economic, social, and physical poverty and enable them to become responsible and fulfilled Christian adults. We were very impressed with their credibility ratings and percentage of funds that go directly to helping the children.

Through Compassion, we have committed to pay $38 a month for a very long time to help allow Johane the opportunity to learn, receive nutritious meals, and get regular health screenings and medical treatment at a church and child development center established by the organization. She will also learn about the love of Jesus, receive personal attention, play with other children in a safe environment, and know that she is loved by Christian adults who care about her and her personal welfare.

This opportunity has in turn already taught my girls so much. Audrey understands that we are helping Johane because she is in need. She understands in her childlike faith that we are blessed with many things and we should share what God has given us. And they pray for Johane. They speak her name adoringly and are proud to tell others about helping her. We also get to write her letters and color her pictures as much as we want.
And I love the fact that she and Audrey are the same age with their birthdays a week apart.

"Dat Dohane." I get instant tears when I hear Brenna say her name.
"Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger." Ps. 8:2

Happy Birthday, Johane! We are proud you are a part of our family now!
