Here they were on Brenna's birthday--heading to the doctor for the first time. Brenna had already had fever and a violent cough for a couple days with not much sleep for either of us.
She managed some birthday smiles with Sister at her side, though :)
And she was happy to get to Mimi and Pop's that night and discover fun gifts waiting.
We traveled to Krum to get out of the house (and have help) because Josh was gone to Bastrop to rebuild a home destroyed by the fire. By some weird fate, they always get sick when he is gone several days.
Her diagnosis: something viral (like the RSV that most of our friends had gotten that week) but her lungs sounded fine despite the yucky cough. Thankfully her fever went away a day or two later.
Like Audrey's shirt said, "Cupcakes make everything better."
I knew it was inevitable that Audrey would start the virus and fever, too, since all of the other kids who stay with us had also been sick. Audrey's fever got much higher than the rest, though, and we even threw around the possibility of flu. Her cough was never as bad, but we could not kick the fever. I had resorted to Tylenol suppositories because she gagged up so much Tylenol. After a couple of days of it, I tried to get a doctor's appointment but they were full since everyone and their dog was also sick. I spoke directly to the doctor who said to come in if the fever was not better tomorrow. So I was relieved when it did finally go down the next day--a full week after Brenna had started her fever. Audrey actually felt like playing that day and ate some food after a few days of nothing. I thought we were in the clear and on the road to recovery. But that night, her cough took a turn for the worst and she was up coughing in pain all night--with no fever though! We called Mimi in for reinforcements and headed to the doctor to discover that Audrey had developed bronchitis/borderline pneomonia and an ear infection since we had last seen the doctor on Friday. Basically she was a very sick little girl and I, of course, felt like Mother of the Year (sarcasm). We got a shot of antibiotics and she was feeling like a new child by that night. We were unsure of their party that weekend, though, since they had been so sick, but they recovered just in time to enjoy a smaller gathering and LIFE in general!
Here she is with 1 day to go before her party and actually feeling like smiling!

You ARE Mom of the Year, with no sarcasm and no doubt. You did everything you could to take good care of your sweet girls. So glad they are better.
